Charles Creek Baptist Church, Warren Co, TN "Charles Creek The Baptist Church has 168 members today. Some of which are direct descendants of the charter members. Bros. Jess Whitlock, great-grandson of D. M. and Mary Whitlock and Ozie Allen, great-grandson of J.K.P. and Lucy Whitlock, both serve as deacons at the present time. Mr. J. Whitlock and Mr. Allen both have children and grand-children and Mr. Allen has great-grandchildren who attend the church today. These grandchildren and great-grandchildren are sixth and seventh-generation descendants of the charter members. According to church history, the following were former pastors of the church: Elders S. Brown, J.K.P. Whitlock, N. Sparkman. R. L. Whitlock, Knox Carr, B. L. Garner, A. J. Orrick, J. T. Casey, C. L. Anderson, Rowland Whitlock, W. C. Banks, Eddie Cantrell, Earl Wilson, H. T. (Zeke) Pelham, Bryce Holder, Wayne Smith, Jesse Garner, and Cecil Van Winkle. The present pastor is Elder Darrell Cantrell and Elder Kevin Murphy is the assistant pastor. Some of the past deacons were: Bros. J. R. Peden, J. S. McKnight, John McGregor, D. Parsley, B. R. Hicks, C. T. Young, Orval Jones, Claude Stembridge, Herbert Knight, and Wilburn Womack. Those serving as Deacons today are Bros. W. A. Smith, Ozle Allen, Jess Whitlock, Winfred Murphy, Phillip Pelham, and Bryan Murphy. The Charles Creek Cemetery is adjacent to the church grounds. Several graves are marked with handmade stones without dates. The earliest date marker is 1893. There are approximately 300 graves in the cemetery at the present time. The church was formed with 17 members (4 men and 13 women). Those 17 members were: Bros. J.K.P. Whitlock, H. Patrick, D.M. Whitlock, James Williams, and Sisters Lucy P. Whitlock, S. Abigail Allen, Winey E. Ford, Marthey A. Ford, Marthey Orrick, Celithey Orrick, Margret Freeman, Josyfene A. Freeman, Mary E. Whitlock, Martha Freeman, Sara A. Ford, Caroline Patrick, and Mary Patrick. All charter members signed the original document forming the church agreeing to the rules of the Bible."
