A Brief History of the Arrick Family in Evansville, IN By Larry V Ham, Evansville, IN The Arrick name first appears in the 1913 Evansville City Directory. Living at 306 S. Delmar Avenue are Warren Arrick, Robert Arrick, William and Birdie Arrick, and Frances Arrick (widow of James). Frances Arrick died 11-4-13 at the age of 74 ?. When she died William and Birdie Arrick were living at 23 Dennison Avenue. Harrison and Robert moved to 14 Ewing. The 1916 City Directory has Harrison Arrick and wife Edna living at 128 Genung, Robert Arrick residing at 316 Cumberland Avenue with Warren Arrick and William and Birdie Arrick. Warren is listed as a Painter and William is listed as Car Repair - L. & N. Railroad. In 1919, the directory has Pearl Arrick, Warren Arrick and Robert and Madeline Arrick at 318 Genung. In 1922, William is listed as a Carpenter. In 1926, the directory has William and Birdie Arrick living at 314 Genung, Warren and Addie Arrick living on 1112 Division Street and Robert Arrick on 1015 W. Iowa Street, listed at Bucyrus Company. William Arrick was born in 1883 in Tennessee. He died in January 1928 and is buried in Locust Hill Cemetery in Evansville, IN. William was the son of James T.(?) Arrick and Mary Frances Beckham. He married Birdie (Burder?) Beckham in 1904 or 1906. Birdie was born on 9-7-1889 in Tennessee. She was the daughter of John Buchanan Beckham and Manerva Franks. She married Finas Basham in 1936 and was widowed a second time in 1942. She died on 12-5-1952 in Evansville, IN and is buried along side of William Arrick at Locust Hill Cemetery. William and Birdie Arrick had six children that grew to adulthood: Beulah Arrick Smothers, 1910 - 1946, wife of Dale Smothers Myrtle Arrick Ham, 1914 - 1968, wife of Charles A. Ham Henry Paul Arrick, 1917 - 1969, husband of Mary Emaline Higgins Dorothy Elizabeth Arrick, 1921 - 1985, wife of Russell Netherton Ronald William Arrick, 1926 - 1947, not married Harold Gene Arrick, 1928 - 2000, husband of Helen Golbach Elizabeth, William, Warren and Alma Pearl Arrick died during childhood. Information of James T. Arrick is incomplete. My notes have him serving in the 19/20th Consolidated TN Calvary CSA, Co. B. The children of James and Mary Frances Arrick are: William Arrick, 1883 - 1928 Harrison Arrick, 1892 - 1968, daughter Mary Lou, sons, James, Frank, Ralph and Arnold, all of Huntland/Winlchester TN Warren Arrick, 1895 - 1951, wife's name was Lovie, 4 step-children Robert Arrick, 1898 - 1994, married to Madeline (Mattie) ? and Olive Tuley, daughter Helen Arrick Tuley, wife of Paul Tuley, daughter Patricia Pearl Arrick, 1902 - 1970, married to Arthur Ellis Wood, daughters Betty and Frances. I also have a name of Fleety, female, born in 1903 - no additional info. I do not have much information of John Riley Arrick. He is in my notes as having a wife who was part American Indian. My mother, Myrtle Mae Arrick Ham, died at the age of 54 in 1968. My brother, Ronald was born in 1934 and has 5 children. My sister, Dorothy Sharon Ham Schapker, was born in 1946 and has two sons. I was born in 1938 and have two children. Most of our children and grandchildren live in the Evansville area. Henry Paul Arrick has two sons, William Arrick and Michael Arrick living in Evansville. They both have children and grandchildren in the Evansville area. Dorothy Arrick Netherton has two children and several grandchildren living inn CA. Harold Arrick has four children and several grandchildren. One of his sons, Mark Arrick has a construction company here in Evansville. He has several children and grandchildren.
